Giving Back: Our 2012 Food Donations Report

As we approach the end of 2012, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your past support of Massaro Community Farm. Your support makes it possible for us to satisfy our mission of feeding people. You can read our full 2012 Food Donation Report here, but below are a few of our numbers:

22,750

The number of servings of vegetables we provided to individuals through local hunger relief organizations in 2012.

6,600

The pounds of local, organic vegetables we donated to our community this year.

$80*

What it costs to provide vegetables to a family of four during a normal growing season.

While we deeply appreciate your monetary donations, there are other ways in which you can support our commitment to ‘Keep Farming; Feed People; Build Community.’

Serve

Many of our program offerings are made available through the service of committee and board members. These folks bring a host of skills and backgrounds to our farm  - graphic design, finance, legal, environmental education, community engagement – just to name a few. We are always looking for those with skills they think can help maintain the farm operation.

Volunteer

Our regularly occurring events on the farm are made possible through the many efforts of volunteers of all ages who show up to lend a hand. Consider becoming a Friend of the Farm. Volunteering a few hours each year is critical to bringing events to you, such as Celebrate Spring, Dinner on the Farm and Family Fun Day and help us build community, in Woodbridge and beyond.

Tell a Friend!

Simply tell your family, friends and neighbors about all the great things going on at Massaro Community Farm.

If you are interested in serving or volunteering for Massaro Community Farm, please contact either Cathy Shufro at outreach@massarofarm.org or Caty Poole at caty@massarofarm.org. We look forward to your continued support and to bringing you more educational programming in 2013.

*Estimated, based on value of produce and USDA recommendations for minimum quantity of vegetable consumption per person, per day.

2nd Annual ‘Dinner on the Farm’ a Great Success!

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s farm-to-table gathering held on September 1st.  Together we raised approximately $20,000 for our community farm!

Over 150 members, friends, and neighbors spent a beautiful late-summer evening enjoying lively conversation, local spirits, and fine dining amongst the sunflowers.   This year’s dinner included special recognition of long-time Woodbridge Executive Assistant and farm supporter Geraldine Shaw.

Massaro Community Farm would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all our generous supporters who made this magical evening possible.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to Ms. Denise Appel, Chef/Owner of Zinc Restaurant, Antonio’s Restaurant, Four Flours Baked Goods, New England Brewery, Savino Vineyards, Amity Wine and Spirits, D&D Linen Supply, and Starbucks Coffee.

A special thanks to Caseus Fromagerie & Bistro, Chabaso Bakery, Mr. Tent, Woodbridge Fire Department, Woodbridge Garden Club, and all our committed volunteers.

Here is what some folks had to say about the evening:

‘ . . . it could not have been more perfect from the ambiance, setting, weather, food, people…that row of sunflowers was the icing on the cake (although the brownies ran a close second!).’

‘ . . . It was a glorious evening!  The food was delicious and the setting was amazing!  It was such fun to eat in the middle of the field, and those sunflowers were a spectacular backdrop.’

For those of you who weren’t able to join us, we look forward to seeing you next year!

Come one, Come all! Massaro’s 2nd Annual Dinner on the Farm

2011 Dinner on the Farm

What’s that you say? You didn’t get to join us for our first dinner on the farm last September? Or did you get to come and enjoyed it so much you’ve been salivating over it ever since?

Either way, Massaro’s farm yield is abundant in volume and variety this year, and you won’t want to miss what is sure to become an annual farm event. Come join your fellow farm supporters in the late afternoon of September 1st to dine on a succulent meal artfully prepared by Zinc Chef Denise Appel. After a brief tour of the farm, you will be treated to local libations and seated at table right in the fields where the organic produce is grown. This year’s event will also honor long time Woodbridge Executive Assistant Geraldine Shaw for her many contributions to the town. This is truly a unique way to celebrate the farm’s seasonal harvest.

Although this is a casual event, seating is limited, and we encourage you to purchase your tickets prior to August 1st. We look forward to seeing you on the farm!
