Over 350 people attended our 3rd Annual Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 2nd. Activities and events like a silent auction, salsa competition, kids game room, scarecrow building, bake sale, live music and bird watching filled the afternoon and lucky for us, Sunday was a beautiful day!

POSTPONED - Due to the weather, we are POSTPONING Family Fun Day at the Massaro Community Farm until TOMORROW, SUNDAY October 2nd.

 

3rd ANNUAL FAMILY FUN DAY is this SUNDAY! Come out to the Farm for a day of family and fun.

Sunday, October 2, 2011, 1-4:30pm

(rain date: Sunday, October 2)

The day will include:

  • Family friendly activities and games, including face painting, scarecrow building and more
  • Spicy/Sweet/Exotic Salsa competition with prizes awarded, based on local guest judges and “People’s Choice” favorites
  • Music by Twin Maples and The Fiddleheads
  • Bake Sale!!!
  • Bell Jar and Silent Auction

Guest Judges:

 

Entrants choose one of four categories:
1. Traditional Mild 3. Exotic Mild
2. Traditional Spicy 4. Exotic Spicy

How to Enter:
Option 1: Pre-register ($5 per entry)
Email: FamilyFunDay@massarofarm.org by Thurs, Sept 29 at 11:59pm:
• your name, phone number and email address
• title recipe(s) along with name of category
Option 2: Register Day of Event ($10 per entry)
• bring your entry along with materials listed in “Day of Event” below between 1–2pm ONLY

Day of Event
• Drop the following off BETWEEN 1–2PM ONLY at the Massaro Community Farm:
– Entry Fee(s) ($5 for pre-registered entries, $10 for entries day of event
(cash or check made out to “Massaro Community Farm”)
– 4” x 6” card with title of recipe and ingredients all one one side. If an ingredient was grown in Connecticut, put a star next to it. Do NOT include your name on the card.
– One quart of the salsa in food safe container. Do NOT include your name on the container.

How it will work:
An assigned number given on day of the event will be added to your card, your food container and your ballot box (provided by Massaro Farm), as we receive entries. Community voting will commence no later than 2:30 pm and will conclude at 3:30 pm, at
which time invited Guest Judges will conclude their tasting, decide winners and community votes tallied.

Winners will be announced shortly after judging commences and prices will be given in each category.

Criteria for Judging:
Appearance, aroma, taste, texture, balance of flavors, and inclusion of Connecticut Grown ingredients – each in equal parts. Both Exotic Mild and Exotic Spicy category entries will
additionally be judged on originality.

RULES:
• Any entries that arrive after 2pm will not be accepted.
• Category may not be changed after the time when registered.
• More than one entry per person will be accepted, as long as additional fees are paid.
