FARM INTERN
Location: Massaro Community Farm, 41 Ford Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525
Description: Massaro Community Farm is a non profit farm on a 57 acre parcel of land in Woodbridge, Connecticut, 10 minutes northwest of New Haven. Our mission is to preserve the farm for growing food, to feed those in need, and to educate our community about sustainable agriculture, enhancing the quality of life for generations.
The farm includes: 4 – 5 acres of working farmland that produces fruits, vegetables, flowers and honey, for our 150-member CSA (Community Supported Agriculture program), and a farm stand to be launched this June. We also donate a percentage of what we grow to local hunger relief organizations. This summer, we will be launching a number of education programs for children and adults.
Farm Summer/Fall Internships: Massaro Community Farm is seeking interns from May – October to work with Farmer Steve Munno in the fields. Interns will be involved in all aspects of the farm operation including: planting, harvesting, weeding, greenhouse work, washing produce, CSA and farm stand distribution. There may also be work in creating and maintaining farm infrastructure – building hoop-houses, fencing, irrigation systems, plus opportunities for teaching groups of young students who will come to the farm a few times during the summer.
Looking for: Motivated Undergraduate or Graduate students preferably with interest in the non-profit and/or food and farm sector who has:
• interest in food production using organic and sustainable methods
• ability to do physical labor, outside, in various weather conditions
• ability to both work well with others, and complete tasks independently
• Experience in farming or gardening is helpful but not required
Commitment: Late May through late August. Dates and hours can be flexible. Availability on Saturdays to help with our Farm Stand is a plus. More opportunities to be involved during Spring and Fall semesters if you are interested.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Experience may be used for credit in internship course. Some produce may be available to you on the farm.

The Position:
Web Specialist and Communication Intern: Massaro Community Farm is seeking interns for our Summer internship, from May – August, and also our Fall Internship, August-October, to help us augment our online profile, creating a robust online presence by developing and executing a social media strategy via blogging, newsletter, Twitter and Facebook. The intern will work on site and off, in coordination with Melissa Waldron Lehner, Outreach and Partnership Coordinator. Days on the farm will be required to learn about the farm and create messaging around daily activities. The ideal intern should be passionate about sustainable agriculture and also able to work independently. Being a self starter is a must.
Responsibilities will include:
Maintain contact lists and build email database
Research press contacts, create and send press releases
Build photograph database
Write/edit content for the MCF blog
Write/edit content for new MCF website
Monitor news about MCF through Google Alerts
Monitor Facebook and Twitter and create updates and conversations
Other duties TBD
Commitment: A 3 month commitment is required. Late May through end of August. Dates and hours can be flexible. More opportunities to be involved during Fall 2011 semester if you are interested. 10 hours per week minimum desired (but no maximum.)

The Position:
Massaro Community Farm is seeking a motivated individual to work with the Development Committee and play a meaningful role in our launch of our Capital Campaign, “Re-Establishing Our Roots.” This is a great opportunity for someone to learn the hows and whys of grant-writing, become immersed in the cycle of grant writing, and to develop professional writing skills and competencies. There is also an opportunity for the individual to provide essential research for the development of a grant application strategy, as well as drafting and producing grant proposals.
Responsibilities could include:
• Researching available and applicable grants
• Data entry and creating a calendar for grant proposals
• Research and assembly of background material for grant proposals
• Drafting of full grant proposal for submission
Commitment: A 3 month commitment is required. Late May through end of August. Dates and hours can be flexible. More opportunities to be involved during Fall 2011 semester if you are interested. 10 hours per week minimum desired (but no maximum.)
