WRAPPING UP FOUR YEARS OF FOODCORPS IN THE FIELD

Over the last four years we have been fortunate enough to partner with FoodCorps in helping to teach our youth where their food comes from. By sharing their team members with us, they have contributed to the community by improving nutrition, reconnecting youth to where their food comes from, and establishing gardens in several schools.

So far, because of this program we have:

  • – harvested 220 pounds of food from school gardens
  • – spent at least ten in depth hours with eighty students over the year
  • -reclaimed a garden at Ansonia High School
  • -Oversee the care and growth of 5 gardens established in local schools and after school programs.

As the new school year approaches, we will continue our commitment to the community by again partnering with FoodCorps. This coming year, FoodCorps service member, Natalie, will return and serve in both Ansonia and Derby. FoodCorps is a program of AmeriCorps, a domestic in-service program. Thanks to Natalie and Foodcorps for helping making our communities stronger!
